House move update
01.24.04 (8:54 am)   [edit]
The removal company have been jumping up and down and hassling us for a moving date (understandably). The lawyer said she was waiting for the valuation report from the bank, the bank said they were waiting for the valuers to report back. I was sticking pins in the figures I'd made of the valuers. Eventually I called a friend who lives in the Land That Time Forgot to belly-ache to her about the whole situation and she told me we were moving on Friday 13th Feb'.
*Brain goes into "sorry mate, you're on your own trying to understand this one...this is way too Andaluz for me" state*
Me: But, erm, how do you know that?
Her: My cleaning lady told me...
Me: Oh yeah, course she did. Now this might sound stupid, but how does she know?
Her: Her sister knows the woman who is holding the keys for the vendors (who are in Sri Lanka).
Me: But...
Her: Welcome to village life.

A call to the lawyer confirmed this was true. *Brain turns to mush again and throbs quietly*

So, it all looks set to happen on Friday 13th, which by the way isn't unlucky here, it's Tuesday 13th here. Phew!!

Anybody want two little figures complete with removable pins?

Wow, it's all going to get speedy for you now.

Incidentally, the murmuration is limbered up and ready to go. Just give the signal.

You know.... I have always known that the help know more about our lives than we do.

Were you kidding about the Tuesday the 13th thing?
OH - we NEVER put a hat on a bed, for fear that someone will die. - Ever heard of that one???

Please cancel all murmuration leave for the weekend of 13th. Good to hear the chaps are limbered up.

I like it when things work out like that, but I always feel slightly silly for having worried so much and struggled so hard to make something happen that was planning on happening on it's own anyway.

It sounds like pretty soon (likely before you even move in) everyone in town will know what color underwear you prefer.

I was studying to be one of those "valuers" (here, called appraisers), but I gave up on it (various reasons).

My superstition (from Russian paternal grandma): never give knives as gifts; it's bad luck upon friendships.

I'd love to see you sleeping in your bowler (rather, with it ON! - - I don't think your muscular Italian legs would fit inside a bowler) and, just what color underwear DO you prefer? (I have many.)

PS: no link to me??!

What a great idea! I'd love to see lots of money being spent on education and public welfare. Now that *would* be money well spent.

You know what would be a better idea? For them to stop spending money at all ! Bush isn't alone in the money spending business and I dare say the world is a lot safer since 911. Now that may not be too easy for you to accept, but no presidency is perfect and they would have spent the money foolishly on some kind of data gathering project about how many varieties of ants live in Aunt Bessies back yard. So, freeing millions of Iraqi people so they can do like the rest of the world and spit in our face if we ever need them is a pretty good deal. Thanks for your site. William

How much money should we blow on education before we have to admit that the tremendous increases already thrown into it hasn't improved it in the least and Welfare has proven itself to be nothing but a black hole with a vacuum cleaner on the other end of it. Our nation can never spend enough money to make welfare work. It will buy votes and encourage many who can work, not to, but it can never receive enough to achieve a victory. I do believe money ought to be spent on both areas and not on a place where a few astronauts can sleep on the moon's surface, but hey, wasting money is what government does best regardless of who is in the presidency. We don't need to attack the president, we need to attack current spending policies and seek measure to safeguard the governments ability to spend what isn't even there. We should shoot at the target and not at the ground. Respectfully, William

The bottom line is how lucky we are to be able to agree to disagree on this. Democracy in action.
I don't think anybody would disagree with you about freeing the Iraqi people, the issue is *how* it is being dealt with.

I agree with you, all systems have their flaws, which is why money should be spent to improve them. Yes, its pointless to throw money at a problem. Until our "leaders" stop spending to buy votes and start spending to genuinely imrove the lives of Joe Pubplic we'll all keep going round in circles.
