Twas the night before Christmas...
12.19.03 (8:57 pm)   [edit]
Because I just did a "Spanglish" thing with FC and Billly I thought it was apt to post the following. I like this a LOT! Enjoy.

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the casa,
Not a creature was stirring -- Caramba! Que pasa?
Los ninos were tucked away in their camas,
Some in long underwear, some in pyjamas,

While hanging the stockings with mucho cuidado
In hopes that old Santa would feel obligado
To bring all children, both buenos and malos,
A nice batch of dulces and other regalos.

Outside in the yard there arose such a grito
That I jumped to my feet like a frightened cabrito.
I ran to the window and looked out afuera,
And who in the world do you think that it era?

Saint Nick in a sleigh and a big red sombrero
Came dashing along like a crazy bombero.
And pulling his sleigh instead of venados
Were eight little burros approaching volados.

I watched as they came and this quaint little hombre
Was shouting and whistling and calling by nombre:
"Ay Pancho, ay Pepe, ay Cuco, ay Berto,
Ay Chato, ay Chopo, Macuco, y Nieto!"

Then standing erect with his hands on his pecho
He flew to the top of our very own techo.
With his round little belly like a bowl of jalea,
He struggled to squeeze down our old chiminea,

Then huffing and puffing at last in our sala,
With soot smeared all over his red suit de gala,
He filled all the stockings with lovely regalos --
For none of the ninos had been very malos.

Then chuckling aloud, seeming very contento,
He turned like a flash and was gone like the viento.
And I heard him exclaim, and this is verdad,
Merry Christmas to all, and Feliz Navidad!

I first heard that back in 1972. I looked it up and it dates back to 1945.
The version I learned had only minor differences from this one:

A Visit From Ole Nick
(Copied from The Laredo Times in 1945)

Tis the night before Christmas
And all through the casa
Not a creature is stirring
Caramba! Que Pasa?
The stockings are hanging
Con mucho cuidado,
In hopes that St. Nicholas
Will feel obligado
To leave a few cosas
Aqui' and alli'
For Chico Y Chica
(And something para mi')
Los ninos are snuggled all safe in their camas
Some in camisas
And some in pajamas.
Their little cabezas
Are full of good things
Todos esperan que
Santa will bring!
Santa is down
At the corner saloon
Muy borracho
Since mid-afternoon.
Mama' is sitting
Beside la ventana
Shining her rolling pin
Para manana
When Santa will come
En un manner extrano
Lit up like a star
On the mountain, cantando.
Y Mama lo mando'
To bed with a right
Merry Christmas A Todos
Y A Todos, Good Night.

Please visit Budget's weblog at http://m-blog.com/budget . He has finally owned up to his hoax. His claim that he is mblog was an outright lie (or a harmless joke depending on who you believe) and he and I are completely different people.

But I've been saying that all along. Yes, Budget did post some things and sign my name, but Budget does not have a blog here and he said he does not want one.

If there is anything I did to offend you, I will be glad to discuss it with you. However if Budget did anything to offend you, there's not much I can do except argue with him.
