Shopping
12.19.04 (9:41 am)   [edit]

Like most people at this time of year I’ve been thinking about shopping. Not that long ago the householder would sit in their drawing room and make a list. The list would be given to the housekeeper who would divide it up, go to the individual shops which specialised in, for instance, meat, dry food, fruit etc. and make an order. The various orders would be delivered to the house and the accounts would be settled.

Fast forward a few decades and we all want to get in our cars and drive to “out of town” superstores where we can buy everything we need under one roof. Enter the need for time and patience.

You’ve got to be living on another planet not to notice how the media are throwing statistics at us over this festive season about the amount of people shopping online. “It’s the latest must do…”  From the comfort of your own home you can browse sites specialising in individual good, purchase, have them delivered and settle your account. Could we possibly be going back to the future?

Around here we're still shopping daily for food. Last night The Man climbed into bed muttering, "Fish... milk... tomatoes... mochi... tofu... mustn't forget..."

We buy honey off the Internet, however.

Amazon is great for presents. Not that I've used it for Xmas, but if I were a Good Aunt, I would have. (But I'm not, so I didn't.)

Considering how rude people can be when you're out in public....it sure is appealing! I did one book order online this year. But I'm making most of my other gifts, except for those odds and ends for Nolan. Who by the way, is doing quite well. I'll answer your comments on my bloggie one of these days......

Merry Christmas!!!!

Shopping online is supportive of agoraphobics. Now they, like us, can suffer the frustration and anguish of worrying about what to get who.

All kidding aside, I love shopping online. I can tend to get a bit crazy though. Last time I ended up with six variations on a theme of chocolate body wash. Course, I smell good enough to eat..... but that is a story for a different sort of blog.

*laugh* shopping online is a treat...but theres something special about getting buffeted by the crowd and comin home out of the cold and into the warmth.
Feliz Navidad =)

I love having the internet do my shopping for me. Now...if someone can figure out how to get the internet to come clean my bathroom, I'll be all set!

I have to say, shopping on line has save my life this year... and the vision of Santa for my kidlings. Between work, school, sick kids and a hubs who was away for 14 days, It was a miracle that I got anything done!

WHen the delivery giy arrived with a big box last night, my kids were estatic- they beleive that while Santa does bring toys, he has so much work to do that the UPS and postal people are actually Santa helpers... yes, I'm deluding my innocent children by propetuating the myth...

As for daily shopping, I still visit the market every other day for fresh fruit and vegi's, can't help it. WHen I lived in the city, it was such a luxury to walk down the street to the green grocer to buy stuff for dinner... sighs... I miss those days...

Envy y'all. In my country, shopping online is not yet a culture and everyone doubted the integrity.

Well, good for y'all and Merry Christmas!

People will always worry about how secure it is to shop online. Here in Spain it's not THAT popular yet, but I think a lot of people have bought Christmas gifts online.
Thanks for dropping in.

Clearly your weblog is a flower depositing pollen on a hummingbird's forehead.
