Party time
12.10.04 (12:08 pm)   [edit]

The British government have given out a health warning concerning “The Office Christmas Party”. They feel it necessary to warn people that photocopying your usually hidden bits is potentially bad for your health, think broken glass. And as if that wasn’t patronising enough, they also warn that dancing on your desk is dangerous because it may not be as sturdy as your table at home. Hmm interesting… Oh come Mr. Blair, are you trying to tell us that none of this goes on at the “Number Ten” Christmas bash?

(There’s a very scary imagine of Gordon Brown and a photocopier drifting across my mind).

Seeing as I work for myself I tend not to do the Christmas party thing, but this year’s going to be different. I’ve decided (or should I say “the management decided”) to skip all the expense of food and drinks and go straight into the photocopying and dancing on the desk bit.

Hold on, can you smell that? That’s the sweet smell of rebellion.

Did you think to check with the union steward first? Around here, that would be me. Then I have to check with the firm administrator, which would be me. Then I clear it with personnel... which is of course, me. Then Human Resources must be in on the loop. Fortunately, since that is also me, the process goes rather smoothly until it gets to the CEO's desk. That would also be me but I always feel compelled to pull rank because I can. Then it is back to the drawing board and the whole process begins anew.

Is that really a health warning or is it more of an 'embarassment warning'? They probably decided to make the announcement after some nasty photocopier incident at their last christmas bash.

imagine having to fill out that accident report. Wonder if it would be a compensable accident claim?

Now, now... the rolling chairs down the hall races, ther is always somebody who after a few too many, thinks it's funny to let te chair (and it's occupant) go careening into the file cabinets or glass wall or other office members... I think it's called office bowling, or something like that.

Happy Holidays
