Do you know? posted by: VodkaB (reply) post date: 11.28.04 (4:22 am) sorry, but im having a laughing fit here *grin* i've been dazed all day, and the couples' confusion actually made sense to me *smile* have a gdday! posted by: Andaloo (reply) post date: 11.28.04 (6:47 am) Reply to: badaunt I believe it started in Victorian England and is a product of sexual oppression. In a time when showing an ankle was considered outrageous and even the legs of furniture were covered some bright spark had an idea. If the women dressed as boys they’d have to wear tight clothes and show their legs. (I’m not sure where the men in drag fit into this.) The story lines were basic because, like porn movies today, the plot isn’t exactly the exciting bit. The audience shouting and singing is a throw-back to the music hall days when that was how audiences behaved, especially once a year (in the Christmas panto) when they got to see a lot more of their favourite actresses. Hope you’ve been taking notes, there’ll be a test next week. posted by: badaunt (reply) post date: 11.28.04 (1:34 pm) Reply to: Andaloo Gotcha. Panto = old-style porn. (No problem with the test.) posted by: SnowbirdArts (reply) post date: 11.28.04 (6:45 pm) Missed you, Mr. Andaloo. I used to get an email notice whenever you put up a new post, but I guess that doesn't work anymore. Been lonely without my weblog friends. Stop by and see me some time. (I won't ask you if you have a pistol in your pocket! =8-) Linda PS please say hello for me to the weblog friends I am having trouble finding. Sort of like Benny Hill, only totally different. posted by: irishgirl28 (reply) post date: 12.05.04 (3:10 pm) the premise for all stories...good vs. evil...boy meets girl....etc...and the question is the perfect one....always why? the real question is why not? |
