Too sad for words
11.16.04 (5:13 pm)   [edit]

The recent events in The Netherlands are constantly on my mind. How can the people of probably the most liberal country in the world be doing this?

On the news this morning I watched an American soldier execute a man.

I’ve just heard that Margaret Hassan has also been executed.

I don’t belong in this world.

I think a lot of people are feeling like that. We somehow ended up on the wrong planet.

Just don't go trying to hitch a ride with a passing comet, OK?

The right-wing reaction in The Netherlands has just astonished me. I certainly can't claim to know a great deal about Holland, except for the amazing three weeks Mom and I spent in Amsterdam and the surrounding country. Everyone was so friendly and helpful to us. Living in a kind of a hickish, right-wing sort of place, I remember thinking during the visit how nice it was to see all sorts of interesting people together in such a clean, pleasant city.

I heard the sound track from NBC's footage on the radio this morning. I don't want to see the visuals. I'm sickened and furious. I can't think what to do.

We are all very sad about the events in recent history. Unfortunately, I also have the feeling of shame due to being connected to amerika. I am ashamed to be a citizen of this amerikan taliban.

Here is what I want: I want to hug you and make you forget this horror. I want to make you soup. I want to make the hurt stop hurting. I cannot do any of these things and that makes it all the worse. I am so ashamed to be an american.

I believe it's a sad time for many of us. It seems that world events are spiraling into some kind of complete madness. I try not to focus too much on them, but unfortunately I really do care what happens to people, and thus can't help but obsess over the news. I honesty can't believe some of the things I'm reading these days. Here in the US we are experiencing something beyond insane.

One thing that pleases me right now is I have friends all over the world, and all because of silly old tblog. I really believe that having links to the rest of the world is very important right now. Maybe if we all try to exude positive energy, and live by peaceful example something good will come of, and soon.

Please take care, and know that you are loved by many from afar!!
