I'm having trouble picking a favorite... but it may very well be the second to last shot where so many worlds collide. You're right... it is special. Thanks for showing them to us. j posted by: lynne (reply) post date: 07.26.05 (4:27 pm) lovely posted by: lindy (reply) post date: 07.26.05 (5:25 pm) Why am I not surprised that Juni beat me here and picked my hard won favorite too. Each of them is mesmerizing in their own right, but that one, the one that makes you stop and think... it is remarkable just in what it represents. And what a shot. You, dear Sir have quite an eye. You've managed to make a concrete barrier look exquisit up against the ocean peeking through... and the wind farm! So *that's* what they are called! I passed one in the very west part of Texas, just having left New Mexico and nearly ran my car off the road when I happened upon thousands of these windmills all pushed together in such a way that I could not drag my eyes away from them. The bull is magnificent! I'm having a hard time believing you took that shot, really. It almost seems as if the two of you had an understanding. Simply wonderful. Like Paradise. ;) posted by: SusanofPudlin (reply) post date: 07.27.05 (11:35 am) Wow. So tell us, do the wind farms create electricity? I love the picture with Africa in the background. Is that office still available? posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 07.27.05 (8:34 pm) Wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing. posted by: Andaloo (reply) post date: 07.27.05 (8:36 pm) Reply to: SusanofPudlin About 10% of the country's electricity is supplied by wind farms. Not bad eh? The minimalist, open-plan office with ample parking is still available, though I'm told a little company (called Shell Oil, or something) is showing interest. posted by: BerlinBear (reply) post date: 07.28.05 (12:09 pm) And people (nimbys) claim that windfarms are a blot on the landscape! I've never got that. I think they are stunning in their stark simplistic beauty. You see a lot of them here in Germany. Germany, apparently, produced one third of all the wind power generated in the world. Or that's what I read. Great photos Andaloo. I enjoyed this post very much. posted by: billlyryan (reply) post date: 07.30.05 (8:16 pm) Hey friend, long time no talk! I love these photos! The bull is my favourite. I've missed you friend. posted by: Andaloo (reply) post date: 07.30.05 (8:50 pm) Hello you!! You're right, it has been too long. I've been a bit (a lot) lazy recently about reading blogs. It's occured to me that that bull pic probably needs a bit more exlanation. It's an advertising billboard. I think they were first introduced in the 1950's. What's interesting about them, apart from their size (about the size of a four storey block), is that they don't actually say what they are advertising (Osborne Sherry). Although everybody here knows them as the Osborne bulls I realised after posting the pic that people outside Spain probably didn't. posted by: billlyryan (reply) post date: 07.31.05 (6:00 pm) Reply to: Andaloo Sometimes I wish I had been born a bullfighter back in the 20's. Or at least a girl from Spain. |
