Flash bang wallop, what a picture
06.04.04 (8:25 am)   [edit]
I am a Brit and what we do really well is to complain. No not complain, whinge. I’ve just listened to a radio “discussion” about digital cameras. I know it’s a strange thing to listen to but it was very early in the morning and my main concern at that time of the day is to put my head through the right hole in the T-shirt. So, I was half listening to this group of middle class twits chuntering on when I was suddenly aware that my face had screwed itself up the way it does when I don’t understand something. I paid more attention. “Well personally” said the woman who sounded like she was wearing pearls, “I think the digital camera is the new scourge on society, it has replaced the mobile telephone”. (Tuts and mumbles of agreement from the others.) A man who I imagined ironed his socks and always carried a hankie chipped in with, “I wrote to my M.P. suggesting they were banned from restaurants”. I realised my mouth was open, a sign that I was beginning to wake up, understand but not believe what I was hearing. To cut a long story short, somebody on this panel of halfwits had been in a restaurant when people on another table had started taking photo’s. “And then” went on the woman who clearly had a mouthful of marbles, “they started looking at the photographs and laughing. I mean, it’s a bit much in a restaurant. What I’d like to know is why they couldn’t wait till they got home?”

Thank you, you bunch of pompous bottoms who have nothing better to do than whinge and create more and more restrictions on people having FUN, you reminded me why I left all those years ago.

I do that all the time with my digital camera! And I do it in restaraunts, night clubs, parties, (makes it sound like I go to those things all the time).

I guess I'm a scourge on society. LOL

Yup, me too...and you have to look through them so you can delete all the incriminating ones ;)

Here in USA - Cali, anyway - they want to (or have they?) prohibit cellphone cameras from increasing numbers of places. Most especially, gyms. Apparently people in the showers are having their pictures snapped on the sly. (tee hee!) I don't know of any offhand, but apparently there are entire websites devoted to posting of such on-the-sly pics up girls' skirts, and such. Excuse me now, I must do a Google search for .. ahum.. for something......

Oh, and as always, a PS...

PS: your "brit"ness is showing in this post especially (no, no.. I like it!)... "the woman, who sounded like she was wearing pearls..." "Tuts and mumbles." and my favorite, "pompous bottoms."

I love that you brits are just so polite that you say things like "pompous bottoms." Here, in the brusque US, we would just say "asshole" or "motherfucker."

But yeh, this is exactly the kind of thing I came to hate about my native San Francisco: all those whiners (whine. "whinge"??! -- o you wacky brits. Don't you know english?)... all those whiners whining for a perfect world. And the most absurd demands. Bleah. I'll never go live there again (SF), it just irritates me SO much. (Gimme the east coast - like Boston - where everyone acts like they're in the mafia -- say what they think and tell you not to be such a freakin retard when you whine for such things). THAT'S the kind of people I like. Yes, I'm an expatriate, too. Expat of SF.

well i sure am glad that i live in wales, that sort of pomp doesnt hold any sway with the rough and ready welsh.
And contrary to fc comment we brits are not like the stereo typical
terry thomas character portayed in the old flicks,we are rather more aggresive than americans who have no idea how to argue.
No offence ment to any americans who may read this.

“I wrote to my M.P. suggesting they were banned from restaurants”

I can't believe that pompous twit didn't know to use the subjunctive mood instead of the past progressive.

Ok. I will admit that sometimes a person in a restaurant can annoy me with a camera. Not so much the laughing and such, but the flash. And you know what? I thought about writing my congressperson but then decided to GET OVER IT. My way was so very much easier. ;)

Ha! This post made me laugh so much. I can imagine very clearly what it must have been like listening to that show!

How dast those people in the restaurant have a good time!

More witty commentary please!
