No more on weddings...honest
05.24.04 (3:17 pm)   [edit]
Well, the Royal wedding came and went. On an online poll the best bit was voted to be when the eldest son of the Enfanta Christina got up and kicked one of the bridesmaids. (He’s clearly destined for the military.) Throughout last week they tarted up the Madrid streets with decorations for the wedding. The Madrilleños said it was amazing how beautiful their city looked and if the decorations were kept in place after the wedding it would make Madrid one of the world’s most beautiful cities. However, after the wedding the city was trashed. People took all the decorations away as souvenirs and even went as far as cutting up the red carpets! That reminds me…

A couple of Brit friends recently got married here. They obviously didn’t do their homework though. It’s traditional at a Spanish reception for everybody to cut a piece of the grooms tie. He was horrified. He’d spent €300 on it. Still, at least there were no red carpets to cut up. On that note I promise not to mention weddings again…I must be going through a phase.

It could have been worse. A mere fifty years ago, in the hill areas of my country, it was traditional for the community to gather round, cheering and playing music, while the groom publicly deflowered the bride. (This was when brides used to be virgins (and girls), and if there wasn't copious evidence of her former status, the bride was in deep trouble with absolutely everyone --- since everyone was *there*.)

By the way, I never told you how much I liked your kitchen. I really want to know if you have all your favorite appliances, as well as beautiful cabinetry!

That is really frightening stuff! It puts the whole "choice" issue which I was waffling on about in an earlier post into perspective. On a lighter note; We chose not to have a "fitted kitchen". Other than the cooker the only appliance we have is what is known here as an American fridge.

In some parts of pacific, people get married in their birthday suits (absolutely butt naked)...
Now if a couple from that side of the world want to get married in spain.. ewwww....... poor poor groom lolll
