Blue women and grapes
12.31.03 (6:29 pm)   [edit]
I know I've been useless at posting here recently, infact I've had friends telling me I've been useless at keeping in touch over the holidays too. The truth is I've been really selfish. I've been a bit wrapped up in my own world for a couple of weeks...so sue me.
We finally got to the new Picasso Museum in Malaga today. The building is absolutely fantastic, the contents are a load of pretencious rubbish, but then what do I know?!* If I see one more blue woman with all her facial features on the same side of her face it will be one too many.
Here in Spain its traditional to eat a grape on each chime at midnight (giving you a month of good luck for each finished grape). I share that good luck with you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Tis the day before Christmas
12.24.03 (4:09 pm)   [edit]
Haven't made a proper posting for a while because things have been a bit hectic. So, snatched a few minutes to sit and think.
Every year we say we'll do either the Spanish Christmas, or the English one...and every year we do both, which means double the food.
Tonight is the Spanish Noche Buena. We'll eat late (starting around eleven), and have lots of sea food and fish, and stay at the table 'till the early hours. It's becoming fashionable for Papa Noél to bring the kids a gift around midnight tonight, though if anything its just a token. That sneaky old man's getting everywhere lately!

Tomorrow (25th) is just an ordinary day here in Spain, but we do the English Christmas. In short we eat too much, give and receive too many gifts, drink too much, have a siesta, start again, fall out, make up and go to bed. Awww I can't wait!

Anyway, to anybody reading this "I hope you have a VERY happy Christmas" and I'll see you on the other side of it.

Twas the night before Christmas...
12.19.03 (8:57 pm)   [edit]
Because I just did a "Spanglish" thing with FC and Billly I thought it was apt to post the following. I like this a LOT! Enjoy.

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the casa,
Not a creature was stirring -- Caramba! Que pasa?
Los ninos were tucked away in their camas,
Some in long underwear, some in pyjamas,

While hanging the stockings with mucho cuidado
In hopes that old Santa would feel obligado
To bring all children, both buenos and malos,
A nice batch of dulces and other regalos.

Outside in the yard there arose such a grito
That I jumped to my feet like a frightened cabrito.
I ran to the window and looked out afuera,
And who in the world do you think that it era?

Saint Nick in a sleigh and a big red sombrero
Came dashing along like a crazy bombero.
And pulling his sleigh instead of venados
Were eight little burros approaching volados.

I watched as they came and this quaint little hombre
Was shouting and whistling and calling by nombre:
"Ay Pancho, ay Pepe, ay Cuco, ay Berto,
Ay Chato, ay Chopo, Macuco, y Nieto!"

Then standing erect with his hands on his pecho
He flew to the top of our very own techo.
With his round little belly like a bowl of jalea,
He struggled to squeeze down our old chiminea,

Then huffing and puffing at last in our sala,
With soot smeared all over his red suit de gala,
He filled all the stockings with lovely regalos --
For none of the ninos had been very malos.

Then chuckling aloud, seeming very contento,
He turned like a flash and was gone like the viento.
And I heard him exclaim, and this is verdad,
Merry Christmas to all, and Feliz Navidad!

Christmas Cake Recipe

Christmas cake recipe

INGREDIENTS

1 CUP OF WATER
1 TSP BAKING SODA
1 CUP OF SUGAR
1 TSP OF SALT
1 CUP OF BROWN SUGAR
LEMON JUICE
4 LARGE EGGS
1 BOTTLE OF VODKA
2 CUPS OF DRIED FRUIT

Sample the vodka to check the quality. Take a large bowl, check the vodka again. To be sure it’s the highest quality pour one level cup, drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point its best to make sure the vodka is still OK. Try another cup…… just incase.
Turn off the mixerer.
Break two leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick fruit off floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a sdrewscriver. Sample the vodka to check to tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who giveshz a shit. Check the vodka. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven and piss in the fridge. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don’t forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the vodka.
Fall into bed.

CHERRY MISTMAS!!

passport photographs
12.18.03 (9:01 am)   [edit]
I went to the British embassy recently to collect my new passport. Before handing it over the official opened it, looked at the photo, then at me, then at the photo, then at me, then burst out laughing. I looked at it, looked at him and started laughing too. He offered to take it back and have it redone but I said I'd take it as it was. Travel over the next ten years should be interesting. What was the problem?

Well, the colours of the pic had taken on a life of their own. My face is puse. It looks like somebody has "morphed" the pic because my eyes are barely there but my cheeks are huge and shiny. In short I look as if I've just woken up from VERY cheap plastic surgery, and that my face is highly likely to explode at any minute. ewww

[b]Britons Snobbish About America, Pointless Survey Reveals[/b]

London NW1 -- A pointless survey commissioned by the Mail on Sunday has revealed that many Britons have an aloof or belligerent attitude towards the United States. The survey, undertaken by an independent polling company, also revealed that many Americans feel the opposite way.

"The special relationship," Mail contributor Maureen Snodgrass told us, "is actually more like that found between two rival ninjas. They will treat each other with upmost honour, but be looking to kick each other's ass behind closed doors."

"Yeah," added Daily Mirror boss Piers Morgan. "Ninjas."

Our own survey, conducted on the streets of Edinburgh, revealed that most British citizens think Americans are "fat, ugly, brash cretins who should die die die". A companion survey undetaken in New York City revealed that most American citizens think Britons are "cold, uppity, ugly simpletons with an inflated sense of how important they really are, who should die die die".

Critics who dismissed both surveys as an excuse for rampant xenophobia were shot by lions, sewn through with snakes and made to sleep with French people.

Honey I'm home...

I decided I missed writing my blog and reading all the news from blogland, so I'm back. I've kept an eye on M-Blog and it looks to me like it will soon fold, there's hardly any traffic, so that's why I've chosen to write here.

Thanks for all the emails/messages. Normal service will resume a.s.a.p.
